Digital technology in educational practices – A
10:35AM–12:05PM – Presentation 1
Development of digital skills in Maker spaces set up in Quebec CÉGEPs
The Digital Competency Framework proposes building students’ “confident, critical and creative use of digital technologies to achieve objectives with regard to learning” (MÉES, 2018, p. 7). It redefines the role of digital technology in schools, since technology has, until now, been used for cross-curricular competency, often reduced to its technical input. Going forward, however, digital competency hinges on a set of complex concepts: ethical citizenship, co-creation, metaliteracy, etc. Some colleges have therefore set up creative laboratories or Maker spaces, where creation, collaboration and emerging technologies co-exist. This seminar, part of a project funded by the FRQSC and the MÉES, will present three different initiatives: Collège Ahuntsic, Cégep de La Pocatière and Cégep de Sorel-Tracy. We will explain the project’s objectives and launch a debate on the development of digital competency.
